Welcome to Life Jacket for Teachers...
Teachers have the most difficult and most important job. We are asked to be parents, counselors, nurses, friends, law enforcement, secretaries, assistants…the list goes on and on! We have stacks of paper-work we must complete to cover ourselves legally. On top of that, they expect us to teach specific concepts that most students couldn't care less about! And, we have to grade papers. Then they wonder why we complain so much about our job!
We are DROWNING!
Many professional development opportunities repeat information teachers have already heard. We groan when we have to attend yet another presentation to "improve the quality of teaching."
This Professional development is Different:
- Teachers will not be asked to read a long text on one topic.
- Teachers will not be asked to spend lots of time addressing topics; it will take 3-5 minutes of their daily time and they can apply ideas immediately!
- The program is inherently differentiated. Teachers will not waste time "learning" things they already know; they will research specific areas where they need to and are willining to improve.
- Teachers are encouraged to complain...and to find solutions to address their own struggles. They will vent, but they will also seek solutions!
- Teachers will be empowered by using their own ideas instead of hearing an "expert" preach about what they are doing wrong and how to teach better.
- Teachers will build a sense of community by seeking ideas from peers who are experiencing success.
- Teachers will become inspired to create solutions to classroom management issues in their classrooms. This will increase their confidence and their sense of authority with students, which will increase the oppotunity for them to be more effective in their teaching!
- Instead of becoming more overwhlemed and defeated, teachers will become more productive, more inspired, and more effective!
